The Big Bang Theory

A woman who moves into an apartment across the hall from two brilliant but socially awkward physicists shows them how little they know about life outside of the laboratory.

I really only started liking this show when Amy Farrah Fowler showed up. I was bored with the dumb blonde trope and I couldn’t imagine anyone being attracted to Leonard.

I’ve always liked it.

So much so that I often have the repeats playing in the background while I do other tasks.

It’s become my comfort show.

I’m that way with Law and Order and Judge Judy {surprised there isn’t a topic for her}. I usually watch one of each before I go to bed,

I can make a Judge Judy thread if you like.

Guess what I am currently watching right now?

The Big Bang Theory, heh.

I don’t like dumb blonde stereotypes either, but the great thing about Penny was how she balanced out the guys in terms of her street smarts. In the end, they were all better off for having developed the friendships they did with each other. As Leonard would tell people when they commented in amazement that he married Penny, he’d say: “I wore her down!” Penny dated quite a few hunks who turned out to be duds. She knew that Leonard worshipped her and would never purposely hurt her. While a seemingly improbable couple, they turned out to be a cute pair.

If this were real life I would think she was using him…but this is a show and I wasn’t a writer…
She had great hair.

She did. I also like how despite the fact she wasn’t book smart, she was smart in her own way and quick-witted. And she was great at memorization.

Yeah, she was great at that, but nobody, NOBODY was better than Jim Parsons. I don’t know if he ever got an Emmy, but he certainly should have.

I never watched this when it was airing but have since watched them all on Max. I don’t think the show would have gone 12 seasons without introducing Amy, but I felt once Bernadette and Amy became main characters, the show got a lot more generic.

I think the show would’ve become quite stale if they didn’t introduce a love interest for Sheldon. It was fun watching his character develop in that way. Mayim did a great job as Amy. I liked Bernadette, but she became more shrill in the last couple of years. I didn’t care for that aspect of her character.

The thing I really disliked about the later seasons was what a child they made Sheldon. He’d always been immature, but suddenly they morphed him into someone who acted like a toddler a great deal of the time - outings require a mixture of cheerios and honey nut cheerios, he can’t say bad words or even hear them, and he giggled at “naughty” words. Like, couldn’t we just stick with a socially awkward/clueless but very intelligent guy without all the dumbing down to make him a child?

I think introducing all these secondary characters definitely helped open up everyone’s world. I think Howard was definitely the character who experienced the most growth overall with the introduction of Bernadette and later becoming a father.

In the pilot, Sheldon was completely different. He was going to a sperm bank with Leonard and talking about masturbation. As time went on, Sheldon was shown as mainly asexual until the introduction of Amy.

Actually, even Amy came across as awkward and asexual with her interactions with Sheldon and also Penny in the very beginning.

Rest in peace, Professor Proton.
