Place to discuss movies you’ve been watching recently- all genres and styles.
I sat down to watch The Idea of You, I hadn’t read the book but I love Anne Hathaway and Nicholas Galitzine.
It’s a romance drama, not a rom com. IMO although Nicholas Galitzine is very talented but I wasn’t sure if he can pull off romantic chemistry with women. Whenever I have seen him in a romantic lead opposite a woman he’s so flat, opposite a man he SHINES and sizzles. I think Anne Hathaway is really carrying this. He’s not awful, but he doesn’t shine like he does with a male costar. He does do the “reflective pop-star” well.
I gave it a firm B+.
Watched Bullet Train on Netflix last night. It’s a comedy/action film with a number of famous faces in it as either a main character, a supporting character or in a cameo role. It was a lot of violent, unrealistic but silly, fun. I’d rate it 6.5/10.
Watched a Hallmark movie for Love & Honey. A big town Professor goes to Malta to for an archeological mystery and meets a small town beekeeper. They discover a fresco that he thinks may lead to a mysterious gold treasure but actually it was a honey route (get it gold?!?!).
I give it a C
I watched Migration. It was adorable.
I watched Late Bloomers with Karen Gillian. Meh, glad I didn’t waste my money in the theatres.
Just finished Find Me Falling and absolutely loved it.
Harry Connick Jr singing one of my favourite songs: “S’agapo giati eisai wraia” (I love you because you are beautiful) was so sweet. Ali Fumiko Whitney did really great playing Melina and her Greek-Cypriot was spot on.
I may give it another watch this weekend.
Seems like i am the only posting… LOL
Saw Argylle which is a spinoff from the Kingsman.
While the movie was overall cute and fluffy fun, I got peeved at one thing. Without giving too much away, the two leads supposedly were in love and had a song - Now and Then by the Beatles. What bothered me was the song was just released in 2023 and they are saying they had this song for over 5 years.
I don’t think anyone wants to hear about the movies I watch. The last one I watched was the He-Man & She-Ra: The Secret of the Sword on Youtube.
I’m more of a tv show person. (I actually watched the movie above after a long discussion about cartoon nostalgia with my daughter. )
I just watched Nice Girl Like You on Netflix with Lucy Hale. I gave it a B-, it was more about the protagonist discovering herself and her hijinks with friends than the love story, but it was cute, low stakes, funny lines.
Still working through Criminal Minds. i am in season 13. I did do alot of skipping in season 12 with those episodes of Reid in jail. I don’t buy that with a psycho out there as Mr. Scratch attacking the BAU that they would have automatically put Reid in jail. Same went in Season 12 when Hotch was swatted (courtesy of Scratch) and detained. I mean comeon…
I’m having a Lucy Hale moment because I watched Puppy Love on Prime with her and Grant Gustin. Grant is quite talented and I liked that he got to play a different type of character. It was VERY cute and I bought the time line for them falling in love. Also the dogs were sweet. I recommend if you want a sweet story that will leave you comforted at the end of the experience.
