What We Watched 2024

List what you’ve watched for each month of 2024, include a tiny review, and any quick random thoughts you have while watching.

The tiny reviews should stay tiny. If you’ve got a lot to say about a show\movie, please take that to the specific show\movie topic.

Quick random thoughts are just what they sound like. It’s part of the fun to not specify which show the thought is attached to, let us guess.

I also include shows that are on for what I call “background noise”.

Here’s a template:

Bringing my list from FMF

I’m slow so I got to do Jan & Feb together.

January:

Movies
My Best Friends Exorcism - I liked it
The Flash - Also liked it. I know that person is problematic. I still enjoyed the movie. Michael Keaton. <3
Batman - I don’t care for RP but the movie was good. Way too long though.
Asteroid City - I like Wes Anderson’s quirky movies. The aesthetics appeal to my artist mind.
Renfield - I loved this one so much I watched it twice
Saltburn - Turned it off 20 minutes in. So boring.
Super Mario Movie - Was cute
Elemental - Gorgeous animation

TV
Comedy specials on Amazon - Jimmy O. Yang & Kathleen Madigan
Northern Exposure S 1 & 2 - Loved this show back in the day. So nice to watch it again
Glamorous - I wanted very much to like this but it’s no Ugly Betty. Not even close.

Watched a lot of TV in Jan cause I was sick most of the month.

February:

Movies
The Marvels - It was cute enough but I’m losing interest in Marvel after the crap that’s come out lately. Looking forward to Deadpool, I hope we can get back to business.
My Bloody Valentine & the remake - MBV original is in my top 5 horror movies ever.
Valentine - Watch these every year in Feb

TV
I’m currently watching Schitt’s Creek again so my husband can see it. A delightful show.
Loudermilk - watched a season and a couple of episodes in the 2nd season. I don’t know if I like it.
Falcon & The Winter Soldier - Binged this again one night when the hubs was gone to Mardi Gras. It has some problems, but I still think it’s pretty solid overall.

Background:
Scorpio
Old Doctor Who
Tomorrow People the one from the CW.

I also found my notes from last year for August through Nov. But I didn’t post my shows for the rest of the year and now it doesn’t even matter cause we can’t see that thread anymore. I was going to look back at the end of the year and see everything I watched. Maybe I can keep up this year!|

I will post March once I find my list. I don’t know how I keep losing it.

Still haven’t found that March list. Will I find it before it’s time to do April? Probably not.

  • Why didn’t she put his head in his bag?
  • That brings a whole new meaning to “ Having children will bite you in the ass.”
  • The danger was you, dickhole.
  • You will have golden crown! Hee.
  • Bartenders should neither be drinking behind the bar nor giving out free drinks. I’ve defo seen too much Bar Rescue.
  • If you had minded your own business and not come to “save” him, everyone would have been fine.
  • Jimmy Carr gave good advice re: consent\sex education. I’m as surprised as you are.
  • He shouldn’t have breasts.
  • Not sure I like the M*A*S*H music here.
  • He’s handsome too bad he’s an evil alien.
  • Hey Interviewers! Please provide a tissue to the people you’re interviewing; when they have that white stuff in the corners of their mouth. For humanity’s sake, please!
  • So, just like stand-your-ground laws, stalking laws are applied differently to women vs men. I mean, 2 isn’t a pattern but they only offered 2 examples.
  • Charles Dance as narrator? Yes, please!
  • Whom are you asking for forgiveness: Her, your lord, or your new master whose instructions you just fucked up?
  • “Beautifully phrased bullshit”; I hope to use this someday.
  • Tim Daly is even more handsome now than he was 30 years ago.
  • Finally the portrayal of a strong woman that doesn’t act like a man and doesn’t use her “wiles” going through life. Thank you! It’s even better that this woman is not fictional.
  • You’re a detective so don’t spit your gum on the ground at a crime scene. Geez.
  • 47 mins left in a 2hr & 7 min movie, I finally realize I’ve seen this before. Lol
  • I didn’t know dead bodies could float on their back.
  • He’s up walking around and scrubbing the floor on hands and knees after he was gut shot & shot with an arrow thru the shoulder all less that 24 ago? I don’t think so.

I did find the March list yesterday! It was on the back of the cat’s vet appointment. I had already recreated it and I was right cause there were only three things on it.
March
Movies:
Damsel - pretty good but nothing I’d watch again like say, Enola Holmes
Poor Things - I really loved this. I’m giving it a while to sink in then I’m going to watch it again.

TV:
Blue Eye Samurai - I highly recommend this. Really great story and animation. Finally something that comes close to Castlevania for me.

April

TV
Loudermilk - finished this up and I’m still not sure if I liked it.
Rick & Morty - started watching this again at night since it’s on Hulu now. Watched the first two seasons so far.
Heartbreak High S2 - I hope this gets renewed, I love my teenage high school shows. Plus, Australian!
These next few I watched when I visited my mom’s cause she only really likes murder mystery type shows.
Cracker S1 - Only watched season one because she didn’t like this one. “Didn’t care for the way it was filmed” :face_with_monocle: I’ll finish this one at home.
Professor T (German version) - we ended up really enjoying this one, she didn’t think she’d like it at first.
Dead Lucky - solid Aussie show, too bad it was only one season.
A Murder at the End of the World - This one’s been on my list to watch. We only got through three episodes before I had to come home. I plan to finish it but I don’t know if she will.
I was going to finish it when I got home a week ago but didn’t because Netflix now has
Black Sails! - I’ve been wanting to watch this show for years. I’m almost through the first season, really liking it so far.
We’ve also been watching our usuals, Ghosts, Animal Control, and Will Trent. Got Mama watching the last one and she loves it.

Movies:
Wish - Cute enough but don’t love it like I did Encanto or Coco.
Anyone but You - I wanted to like this more cause I love Glen Powell but it was just okay. The lead actress didn’t do much for me. I’d really like to see him paired with better actresses since I kinda think he’s the new Hugh Grant. Adorably cute, steals the show from other people, and is really good at rom coms.

I actually can remember some of my random thoughts for this movie since I just watched it yesterday.

  • Oh look, Rachel Griffiths. Don’t know if I would have caught that but I just watched that Dead Lucky show.

  • Glen Powell. He’s so cute. I luv him. Oh shit, it’s Paxton Hall-Yoshida. What am I going to do???

  • Must her boobs be falling out of everything?

  • They still had the smooshed cake at the wedding. Love it!

  • I really like the Aussie ex. Can Glen Powell end up with her? I guess I’ll be okay with consoling Paxton Hall-Yoshida while Bee creepy stares at the people at the Sydney Opera House.

Background:
Buffy. My son is working his way back through this show so I guess so am I. For me it’s probably the 454th time.

  • TaskMaster AUS (S2E1 - Part of E2) - I’m out for the season.

  • Dr. Who (S14E3) - Dipped in for this 1 ep: The Beatles & Jink Monsoon! (Thanks @Clover)
  • The Gentlemen (S1) - OK.

Quick Random Thoughts:

  • This is Walter White 2.0.
  • What’s with the dog?
  • ER’s Abby!
  • Rosie! Long time no see.
  • This timeline is wack.
  • I don’t like this. It’s too much like the Roman Colosseum.
  • Prediction: They are both dead and the money gone. Nope I was wrong.
  • What’s with the mirrors surrounding the bathtub?
  • She just helps herself to having a look around his private quarters? And listens to his personal logs? WTF.
  • You came up with a nice character trait, Doug. Love the Kelpien
    walk.
  • Not a fan of the footwear.
  • When you act earnest and empathic about every. single. thing. in every. single. interaction, it stops having the desired impact and just becomes bad acting, Sonequa.
  • Also? Stop with the eyebrow. You are not Spock. Also, Also? Spock used it on special occasions not all the damn time.
  • That is not how you talk to a Captain. Why is she getting away with this nonsense?
  • The real question is why are ‘hero’ women always written like this? Insufferable to the audience and yet beloved by all show characters?
  • An ensign as 2nd in command is ludicrous.
  • I do not like romance mixed in with my Star Trek.
  • They should have made an appearance earlier; it would have been a better season.
  • Wow. That was rough.
  • Oh brother.
  • Stop writing the following dialogue: “Let’s just say…” & “What can I say …”. Just say it already, damn!
  • This is why the documentarian should be impartial and not on camera.
  • There is no retreat on a ship.
  • You know you’ve beaten a man for too long when the cheering stops and a hush falls over the crowd.
  • Hey, it’s monkey boy from Umbrella Academy.
  • Is he still in high school? Wow.
  • Is “Fit as a fiddle” used a lot in Korea or was that a poor translation?
  • Maybe she’ll get tetanus.
  • This gives a whole new meaning to “shooting fish in a barrel”.
  • That cat.
  • That’s a fine little dog.
  • Dude. I just struggle-watched this entire series because I thought it was about the Ripley of Ripley’s Believe It Or Not. Nope, that Ripley was Robert not Tom. Sigh.
  • They did Paul dirty.
  • Is that a fox?
  • An American is put in a UK prison for tax fraud?
  • Gross. I’m not watching that.

Not much this time because I’ve been very busy.

May:

Black Sails - finished watching this omg best show ever.

Percy Jackson & the Olympians - Eh.

Dead Boy Detectives - really liked this one, very likable cast. Hope it gets renewed.

Still watching Rick & Morty; season three complete.

Ah. Good to know. I’d put this towards the bottom of my watch-list, I’ll move it up now.

I watched the following:

TV:
Deadwind - very good
Anthracite - liked it much more than I thought I would.
The Lorenskog Disappearance - what the hell is …zzzzzzzz.

Movies:
Migration - !!!

Thoughts:
This is a really good show. The leads are hot. I hope they hook up. This chick really needs to buy a hairbrush, though.

This isn’t bad. Oh look, incest. How every GoT.

This the stupidest thing I have ever watched. Why did I waste all this time on it? Oh well, at least it helped me to fall asleep every night.

Gwen is so cute. I want a duck.

Now these are random thoughts I can get behind. They made me laugh and feel like I was beside you on the couch all without context! Lovely.

I don’t know if you watched Sandman but it’s in that universe. I’d say more comic booky/campy though. Not everyone likes that sort of thing, but I do.

I did watch Sandman but without any prior knowledge other than Neil Gaiman wrote the book it was based on and I like some of Gaiman’s books.

Do I need to rewatch Sandman before jumping into Dead Boy Detectives?

No, it’s in that universe but not much to do with Sandman. Death does show up in the first episode and Despair later. It’s pretty much its own contained thing though.

Jun 2024:

  • Unfrosted (2024) - With all these star comedians & star actors, this should be hilarious; it’s not even funny.
  • Hitman (2024) - Enjoyable.
  • Upgrade (2018) - Death Wish 2150 only way cooler!
  • The Great Wall (2016) - Fantastical ancient warfare & monsters, oh yeah.
  • Locked In (2023) - Fair.
  • Miller’s Girl (2023) - I tried, I really did. Hate it. Didn’t finish.
  • The Devil On Trial (2023) - Interesting.
  • Brats (2024) - Therapy session w/ 80s nostalgia.
  • Glass (2019) - Ok. Should have been better.
  • Lift (2024) - Nothing special.
  • Baby Driver (2017) - Destination: Snoozeville.

TV:

  • The Challenge: All Stars (S4E10 - E12) - Happy with the outcome.
  • Full Circle (S1) - Yawn. One-eye watch.
  • Strange New Worlds (S1 - S2) - This brought me great joy.
  • RuPaul’s Drag Race (S15) - Winner is obvious very early.
  • 24 in 24: Last Chef Standing (S1) - Interesting concept. Ok show.
  • Dead Boy Detectives (S1) - Mix of early SPN and early BtVS. I Like it! (Thanks @BunnyCarlos. That’s 2 for 2!)

  • NCIS (S1E1) - Not now, maybe later.
  • Loudermilk (S1 - S3) - Ok. Some “jokes” are not funny, just depraved.

Quick Random Thoughts:
So far, I’m not getting enough Timothy Off-with-his-pants.
Spock sex? No. No, no, no, no, no. NO!
Freaky Friday trope? Really?
Ok. I’ll allow it.
His poof is getting way too high.
Hand-washing dishes on a starship? Come on.
It’s Stefan! Wow, Paul Wesley may be an actual vampire.
A musical episode? Even though this is a rip-off of BtVS’s musical ep; reluctantly, I’m in love.
She went back and added the apostrophe to her good-bye note; that makes me like her even more.
I’m unreasonably irritated that only 1 in 24 actually made 1 bite.
People are complaining of being tired after 4 hours? Really?
I bet this was a fun film set and the actors had a really good time.
My 1st thought: can those hands strangle me?
Why’d you have to cut such a big hole for such a small chip?
That was super cool!
Martin Freeman with a “southern” accent. Lol
These reenactments are dumb.
I call shenanigans on the “randomizer”.
You have Debbie Gibson as a Diva and not Cher? Come on show.
Oh no. Not this guy.
His teeth are so distracting.
The chicken ending made me very happy!
Potatoes are vegetables!
Dread-bun is gonna win.
The casting department botched this one.
These obvious continuity errors are buggin’ me.
So far, this is a waste of Samuel L Jackson.
This is the best Shane has looked but then he started talking.
Shoulda killed him and called off the job.

June

Movies:
Times Square - movie from 1980. I haven’t seen this movie in 35 years so that was fun. The music is this is awesome.
Brats - Andrew McCarthy’s documentary about how the Brat Pack moniker affected those that were deemed to be a part of it. Very interesting stuff, I never though much about how it might have affected them. As a teen in the 80s, they were just my people.
Outstanding: A Comedy Revolution - They had some people I had never heard of before on here and it’s sad to know the reason why is because they decided to be out in a time when it could kill your career.

TV
Still watching Rick and Morty, I’m in the first part of season 7 now.
Wynonna Earp - I’ve only watched 2 episodes but I think I will go back to this one.
Doctor Who - We finally had time to start the new season on the last day of June. Only 2 episodes in so far.

July 2024

Movies: Bad Faith

TV: Rewatched all 3 seasons of Family Law. (it’s a Canadian Tv show)

Quick Random Thoughts: I’ll start with Family Law. Frank is and always will be an ASS. I really like Abby and I can’t wait for Season 4. I know they are filming it now.
Bad Faith was really good. It’s all about Christian Nationalism in the US and Project 2025.

Year Round “Noise”: Dharma and Greg, Six Million Dollar Man, Fall Guy (the tv show not the movie), Bionic Woman… kind of rotate thru old shows that I can just have as background noise.

Are you streaming 6MDM & Bionic Woman? If so, where? That’s excellent background noise!
