Married At First Sight

The cart comes way before the horse in the reality series “Married at First Sight.” Based on a hit Danish format, “Married…” features six people who agree to participate in an extreme experiment: Each covenants legal marriage with a complete stranger. Four specialists – a sexologist, a spiritualist, a psychologist and a sociologist – use scientific matchmaking methods to determine each couple, who will not have met or had contact with each other until the wedding day. The series then documents the relationships, including honeymoons and other relatable events of married life. After several weeks, each pair must decide whether to remain together or go their individual ways.

I miss the old MAFs…where they really seemed to try and match the couples for compatibility and not just for the drama.🙄
My (adult) daughter and I have always watched the show together, but this season just feels like a slog. We’re so behind, and we don’t even care.

This season has been a dud although the couples have gotten a lot of reaction from viewers because they have split into two groups. The wives vs the husbands. Only one couple said yes on decision day and they broke up later that night. I think the reunion will be more lively than the show this time.

It drives me nuts that they don’t screen and match people for their religious preferences, if any. I’m agnostic myself, and I wouldn’t want to be matched with someone who wanted me to follow their religion, or expecting me to make our kids follow it.

I didn’t know they didn’t do that. Religious observance would be a huge compatibility factor in a marriage!

I also think sometimes the people who apply try and be agreeable about every scenario, just to get onto the show. So they’re probably not always honest about they do/don’t believe. Then they actually get married and think about spending the rest of their lives with their spouse (and having kids), and then all of a sudden reality hits.

Make no mistake. Unlike the early seasons, the contestants now are all famewhores hoping to become the next internet sensation/influencer with a huge following, and then parlaying that into a career on Only Fans.

What in the world was that reunion? What a bunch of liars and fakers. 😡

I wonder if the castmates didn’t prioritize religion on their application as important OR perhaps the couple felt they needed some conflict to be interesting and came up with that? Because I was thinking the same - religion is very important to religious people, period.

Wow, I had no idea Denmark came up with the idea. It did seem promising in the beginning, but now thirsty “actors” or “entrepreneurs” are using it to raise their social media profiles. I find moreso for the men than the women.
This last season was very telling although I can’t determine how much of the information is exaggerated or embellished. It’s sad all around.

I think they are churning out the seasons too quickly and the result is trash. I don’t know if any of these people @ctually wanted a marriage.

Hey @Chalby welcome to JAR! :rabbit:
