Telling powerful stories in hourlong episodes, TLC follows medical journeys of morbidly obese people as they attempt to save their own lives. The featured individuals - each weighing more than 600 pounds - confront lifelong emotional and physical struggles as they make the courageous decision to undergo high-risk gastric bypass surgery. In addition to drastically changing their appearances, they hope to reclaim their independence, mend relationships with friends and family, and renew their feelings of self-worth.
So. Charles, who lost some weight but did it by never really doing the diet, slamed a video chat closed, and flew to Houston without an appointment, was the finale of the season. What a disappointment it was. The filming was all strange too, He switched from another apartment between the opening scenes with a personal care assistant, and the brother and sister’s place, the brother was now his caretaker. It was just odd.
Next week starts WATN, the first one One-Ton Family sounds like a minor recut of the original follow up episode. The week after that is WATN Nathan and Amber, he’s a drama teacher who had to quit, and Amber’s a teacher too.
I think I remember that couple- are they the ones that Amber was so rude and demeaning to Nathan for his weight when she was just as big as him?
Amber was tired of Nathan, but they married when they both had teaching careers. Then, Nathan immobilized himself through his eating disorder, and Amber was the breadwinner, and only had help from her parents (I think her parents, might have been Nathan’s), and had to do everything for the budget, and house, almost all of the shopping, transporting Nathan around, and even worse listening to him complain. When she switched jobs, Dr. Now wasn’t very happy that she couldn’t take off work, but school systems are notorious for limiting your time off when you’re a classroom teacher. At the end Nathan did get a job, so maybe everything improved for them. I guess we’ll find out in two weeks.
I love several of the poundticipants this season. but not William, Shakyia and Charles, they didn’t even try. However, Rose, Delana, Krystal, and Abi were successes. I keep wondering if this was Dr. Now’s final season? I’ve supected for quite a while. that he oversees the practice, and other doctors do the day-to-day work with the ones who don’t make the TV show, and the patients that are far smaller than 600 lbs.
It may be. I am looking forward to Nathan and Amber’s follow up. Let’s see if their marriage survived.
Yes, tonight’s episode is the final one of the short series about the Perrio family. Hoping for a decent update.
I’m looking forward to Nathan and Amber next week too. I’m hoping for a good update.
I saw the rerun of the Lonnie & John WATN, and they did so well, at least Lonnie did. His boyfriend Robert was so nice, and supportive. John seems to be struggling, and I hope that improved for him.
I’m finally sitting down to watch Charles. It seems addiction still has a strong hold on him, it’s hard to treat multiple things at once.
Watching Nathan & Amber’s WATN episode, I really feel like Amber’s disrespect and contempt of Nathan was misdirected anger towards herself.
She treated him terribly when he was actually trying and she wasn’t making any progress but GAINING. I didn’t remember from the first episode that she already had WLS and gained her weight back. If she had a bit more humility I would’ve had more empathy for her, but by golly Amber you’re such a sourpuss.
I think Amber really needs therapy alone to work on herself. Seeing Hannah and Nathan rock climbing was fun, although maybe he shouldn’t be that physically ambitious yet.
