Blockquote"The Serpent Queen" is a cunning account of one of the most influential women ever to wear a crown: Catherine de’ Medici. Considered an immigrant, common and plain, de’ Medici marries into the 16th century French court as an orphaned teenager, expected to bring a fortune in dowry and produce many heirs. She quickly discovers that her husband is in love with an older woman, her dowry is unpaid, and she is unable to conceive. Yet, with only her intelligence and determination, she manages to keep her marriage alive and masters the bloodsport that is the monarchy better than anyone else, ruling France for 50 years.
Season 1 was awesome and I am so glad that season 2 started. The opening scene with them doing the royal tour was hilarious. I wonder if the royals now still feel the same about us peasants. I do wonder if de Medici planted the woman to kneel down in prayer and thanks.
Hated the ending but i thought the king was suppose to go there to show support for desecularization.
I’m so excited the show is back. Samantha Morton brings something extra to the role. It’s not a straight historical drama or a historical fantasy like Reign but more satirical.
I didn’t like the ending of this week’s episode, BUT I think the show did a good job of demonstrating that religious civil war is on the horizon, and you just want to know how Catherine is going to handle it.
Agree but i gave it a bit of a pass as we are establishing season 2.
I cannot wait to see Minnie as Elizabeth.
I enjoy Minnie Driver a lot, I think she will be a great Elizabeth.

I am loving Minnie as Elizabeth I. She is really killing it and her deadpanning the lines is great.
I’m wondering if Edith was a real person or a real situation or made up for the show.
I felt bad for Catherine’s daughter Elisabeth would was married off to Philip of Spain (now that he’s a vegeted state) but I get it as Catherine’s own marriage was shit. At least her daughter will be able to call the shots and be her own person in that marriage.
Can’t wait for next week to see Catherine and Elizabeth go toe to toe.
Episode 6 and Minnie didn’t disappoint. I wish there were more scenes between her and Samantha Morton.
Edith continues her one way ticket to Crazy Town and she’s taking Guise with her.
I wonder how accurate the whole Edith storyline is. Did Elizabeth I actually fund a group in France? I know she never went to France and it was actually Anjou that went to England as a possible suitor for Elizabeth.
I was going to catch up today but there’s an odd outage and the video isn’t available on Prime Video! I checked on Reddit and it started happening this afternoon.
Damn. All i have to say is Serpent Queen was just as good as season 1. Maybe even better.
Samantha Morton gives a stellar performance. The ending with St. Bartholomew’s massacre blew my mind.
I cannot wait till season 3
I really was. This is a different type of historical drama for Starz but I think they took a risk and it paid off. It hasn’t been renewed yet but I’m hopeful.
I’m crushed
Me too! It was a good series in a different style than other historical dramas. Starz does historical dramas WELL but we have tons of stuff on Elizabeth I. I want them to maybe do a series on Queen Mary II and Queen Anne? Or their uncle Charles II and his mistresses.
