Former nurse-turned-exotic animal broker Tonia Haddix, spends her days caring for animals in captivity. However, her love for one chimpanzee in particular spins into a wild cat-and-mouse game with authorities and an animal rights group.
Did anyone else watch this? Almost as crazy as Tiger King but without the murder and sex.
I get they love chimps but they cannot take care of these animals nor should they be in captivity.
I got upset watching Tonia feed them MacDonalds, Reese’s out of a spray can and Gatorade.
The older lady Connie , I do believe she also loves the animals but cannot properly care for them. It was a labour for her to even walk.
These are animals, not dolls, not people, not play things.
Let me know your thoughts!
I’m gonna watch but only after if all drops. There are four eps and I believe they’re going to be dropping 1 a week. See you soon @Greekmom.
Just watched episode 2.
Ugghhhh!!! That crazy ass woman.
Fake crying. Fake hair. Fake lips.
What a scammer.
I hope they take all her animals. She doesn’t even deserve a goldfish.
Just finished ep 3.
All i can say is that woman Tonia she is that thing that rhymes with bunt.
The sad story about Buck the chimp had me in tears. To be that selfish that she kept the animal when she could have surrendered it to PETA and after it attacked her daughter, she rather have the police shoot it in the head. Then she blames PETA for this.
I hope PETA goes after that Cy guy.
Finished ep 4.
This is crazier than Tiger King for one reason only. In Tiger King the tigers were a status thing, this is more of an emotional attachment.
Tonia should not, I repeat SHOULD NOT own a pet goldfish let alone any animal. She was feeding donuts with icing and sprinkles to her camels, goats, etc. because she felt down for losing Tonka.
The lady who breastfed a chimp in ep.1 is back with Chance. Poor Chance. I do wonder what she does to those animals when they age out. The documentary didn’t go there and ask her.
Tonia needs to find some purpose in life. She bitches she has no money and PETA gave her an out from the $225K she owed them by promising she wont own or broker anymore animals. But her hubris wouldn’t allow for that deal. Then she complain she is broke.
And in the end, she is attacked by a chimp who bit a piece of ear from her and she still wants the animals. My gawd woman, snap out of it!
I’m here now @Greekmom.
I just finished Ep1.
Here are my thoughts:
Haddix: Everybody compares me to Dolly; I don’t know why.
Me: Me either.
Also Me: And no; they don’t.
Her wig is distracting.
She doesn’t love these animals. She enjoys control and dominance over her playmates.
I’m glad the chimps get to be in a better place. It looked better anyway. It is a better place, right?
Re: The circus girl. There was no reason to have the chimp latch to her breast. She could have pumped and put her breast milk in a bottle. Now that I’m thinking about it; would the baby chimp have a stronger latch than a human baby? I mean that’s dangerous, right? And speaking of dangerous, having the chimp that close a baby\child is unwise I’d think.
Now, I’m going to have a palate cleanser before the next ep.
ETA:
Connie just wants to fade into obscurity.
Re: The news footage of Connie’s husband at a birthday party where a chimp grabbed a baby’s foot. Husband (with horrible scaring on both sides of his face) says chimp “probably” didn’t mean anything… (camera pans down and we see said chimp trying to suckle) … but they are very powerful and can be dangerous. Next clip… that chimp bit husband’s nose clean off.
I mean. Dude.
Blockquote She doesn’t love these animals. She enjoys control and dominance over her playmates. I’m glad the chimps get to be in a better place. It looked better anyway. It is a better place, right?
The chimp are in a better place. You see the sanctuary in ep 4 and to me Tonka looks more peaceful. He gets to be a freaking chimp and not a substitute for whatever these women are lacking.
None of these women love the chimps. Truly love them. Even though they have children i think they miss that infant/cling stage that children rely on everything on the mother. So it’s like having a permanent baby. The thing is that many of them could really do alot of good in this world if they put this mothering effort elsewhere. Or even if they took some zoology courses and volunteered at actual sanctuaries that truly take care of these animals.
It’s the psychology of these women that fascinates me. Maybe it’s akin to manchurians by proxy?
Ep 2:
I feel for everybody involved in the Travis case. Travis got a raw deal. He was confined and had all his privileges & freedoms removed because his owners couldn’t control him anymore. Sandra loved Travis but didn’t really know how to properly care for him or what to do when he got unruly. I think Sandra kept the fact that Travis was beating on her a secret because she was afraid of what would happen to Travis. Charla, of course, being mauled by Travis was horrifying and an eye-opener to what chimps are capable of. I never would have thought they would have the strength to pull a car door off it’s hinges.
Elsewhere, Haddix gets more reprehensible with each episode.
That’s a pretty good way to look at it. After all, it’s easier to have your children taken away resulting in higher legal ramifications than it is to have your animals taken away almost always resulting in low, if any, criminal charges.
