The Benson worship on SVU has been ramped up to an all time high this season, it’s just absurd. It’s too bad because most of the cases have been decent and I like the characters not named Benson - Bruno in particular has been a fantastic addition and he should be bumped up to the opening credits. I wish they would give Carisi more to do, but he’s good in the role he has, they just don’t go into court much. But it’s very annoying how they go out of their way to make Benson look like the best thing since sliced bread every week - she always gets a moment to save the day or play the hero, and it’s beyond irritating. If the show wasn’t so hell bent on portraying Benson as perfect and the universe revolving around her, it would be good.

Was watching some season 18 episodes on ION yesterday - that’s one season I’ve pretty much completely missed - and egads… The one-two punch of the Ailes episode (The Newsroom) and the QAnon/Pizzagate one (Real Fake News) was not good. ‘What if Pizzagate… But there really WAS a link between the establishment and a pedo ring?’ Really, SVU? Even with Olivia’s ridiculously self-righteous threat against the Alex Jones stand-in at the end doesn’t take away from the show suggesting well, just because the crazy people made stuff up doesn’t mean they weren’t wrong either.
Left a nasty taste in my mouth.

Season 18 was pretty much a trainwreck, just about every episode was some kind of he said/she said case with St Olivia saving the day. The worst though was Imposter, where St O bullied Barba into prosecuting something that was not even a crime, St O just thought it should be, and as a result a young man wound up committing suicide. That episode is one of SVU’s worst ever and sealed my disdain for Benson

Huh. Reading the E-edition of my local paper, and apparently, Ice T was in my area (Upstate NY, near Albany) speaking at Hudson Valley Community College about the cultural relevance of rap music.

SVU was much better last night - even though it was weird how Rollins was doing detective work like taking statements without officially being a detective. I think they are setting up a possible return for Rollins. The case was good and I liked the investigation and it wasn’t all about Benson. Bruno and Fin were great as usual, really wish they would put Bruno in the opening credits since he’s in just as many episodes as everyone else.
SVU is almost unwatchable now - the season finale was pretty bad - just a bunch of cliches and stupidity with more focus on Benson worship than on the case. Benson has become such a ridiculous caricature. Not even sure if I’ll watch next season - now I mainly watch just to laugh at the ridiculousness of the St Olivia hour, but it’s a shame what this show has become

I may officially be finished with SVU - it’s comical how everyone falls all over themselves praising St Benson. She just sucks the life out of the show.

ION has SVU episodes on every Saturday, and I happened to watch Barba’s first episode, from season 14, and I was reminded of how great of a character Barba was when he came on and what a complete travesty it is how they trashed his character - he’s my favorite SVU ADA and one of the only bright spots of the later seasons of SVU, he had so much charisma and injected life into the show, only for them to eventually turn him into Benson’s puppet and make him spineless and then lovesick. Complete garbage what they did to him. SVU has a very bad habit of crapping on popular characters and throwing them under the bus, they’ve done it to all their former ADAs. This show used to be compelling and now it’s just a shell of itself.

I see SVU has bumped Bruno up to opening credits, finally, and they are adding in a new female detective.
Bruno is about the only good thing on SVU now, so I’m glad he’s sticking around and is in the opening credits. Not sure how regularly I’ll watch SVU this year, the Benson worship is hard to stomach.

Was reading some franchise trivia elsewhere. I never knew that Christopher Meloni beat out finalist Gary Sinise (best known as Lt. Dan in Forrest Gump and Det. Mac Taylor on CSI: NY) for the role of Elliot Stabler!
Seems like Elliot could have been very different. (Well, any character is different depending on the actor, but you know what I mean.)
At least Gary Sinise did get to play a NYC detective, albeit on a different franchise.

I know her appearances have been scattered with the budget slashing and all, but don’t expect to see Dr. Melinda Warner at all going forward [I read her last appearance was actually on Law & Order: OC]:
Tamara Tunie, who actually got her start in daytime on the now-canceled soap, As The World Turns, has been cast in the role of the family matriarch in an upcoming new soap for CBS, titled Beyond The Gates, premiering in 2025.

Yeah we haven’t seen much of Dr Warner lately on SVU - in fact SVU has brought in a new recurring ME over the last few seasons when they need to visit the morgue, an older guy named Dr Abel Truman. He’s a rather colorful ME and a good recurring character, he’ll probably come back whenever SVU needs an ME now.

Not trying to be funny or mean, but I’m guessing the new guy is probably cheaper, and that’s why he took Warner’s slot. At least SVU has a recurring ME.
I wish the Mothership would invest in one again. (Although Rodgers will always be the MVP!)

Yep I’m sure budget issues played a role,
We’ve seen an ME a few times on the Mothership revival, but no one who’s recurring. I would like to see a recurring ME on the Mothership as well, and a psych expert too.
