I recently signed up with Hulu and saw an ad for this show. I’m always late to the party on these things, so I’m happy that I found this show! I binge watched it a few weeks ago and can’t wait for the next season! I also love the intro to the show with the music & graphics. It’s really a great show from start to finish!
I’m in the same situation with this show as you were. I’d seen it but hadn’t paid much, if any, attention to it. Then I saw a trailer recently and now it’s on my to watch list.
As you mentioned that you’re always late to the party - this may be a fun topic for you to hop over for a look at:
I loved the first season and plowed through half the second season before letting it fall aside. I just couldn’t get into the actress brought on to be the girlfriend of Selena and it hindered my viewing. I do plan on picking it back up.
I am going to try to check out that link @Thumper because it seems to describe my viewing habits. I didn’t use to be that way.
That relationship didn’t last very long. I kind of thought that she had an ulterior motive, so once Mabel figured that out, it was over. She was still friendly to her though.
Thanks @Chit-Chat that is helpful to know. I don’t dislike the actress but it was such a blah yet aggressive character that I lost interest.
I just watched the first season last week. I probably would have watched it sooner if I had known the episodes were so short. The first 2 episodes seemed slow but halfway thru I was totally hooked.
I do plan on watching the second season next week so it’s good to know it might not be as good. I have to though, since my daughter is insisting that the third season is the best thing ever and I’ll never hear the end of it if I don’t stick it out.
True crime isn’t my thing, so I probably missed out on some of the in-jokes. Like, is the Tina Fey character based on a real person? (Not that I cared enough to Google it.) Thankfully, the three leads had enough personal chemistry to carry the show.
It took me longer than I had planned but finally got around to Season 2. It was a bit all over the place but still fun to spend time with these characters.
So… on to Season 3 and Meryl Streep.
Update: I started season three, it felt like I was missing something so I went back and watched the last episode of season two. I am now on I think episode four of season three.
I like the show again yet I am not a fan of Meryl so there’s that.
It’s funny, I did like Meryl but Paul Rudd (UO/table for one) really annoys me. Still, Season 3 is super funny and that ‘Which of the Pickwick Triplets’ song is a real earworm.
I think the main thing I didn’t like is Mabel’s aunt selling her apartment. Which of course she would because that’s life but it still threw things off a bit. But they didn’t really focus on it.
I didn’t love this first episode of season 4 - I’m not the most patient person and so I got a bit impatient/annoyed with them taking so long to figure out what was up with Sazz. Interesting that the killer apparently cleaned up after themselves (though not very well) but I don’t know how Charles was so oblivious to a hole in his window. I’m also not really into the whole LA (side?) plot.
I’m hoping the next episode is better. I like watching them solve the mysteries.
I’ve been reading other reactions about the first episode, so I was prepared for some of the weirdness. Even so, it was oddly tense until they finally realized what was up re: Sazz.
I hope Mabel made a great deal and enough to buy her own piece of the building.
Just finished season three and while I almost gave up at probably the third episode because it was just so meh and a little convoluted with filming/timelines, all over the place, many other bad descriptions, there was a moment when it clicked into escape tv interesting and I really liked this season. Meryl is still not my cup of tea, Mabel’s fling guy grew on me when he was revealed under the clothes recording, LOVED MATTHEW BRODERICK, Joy and her Scott Bacuka txt was cool, the sweaters being important, can do with less of Martin Short being nasty with dips, loved the dramatic entrance and the detective taking charge (I cringe though at the gratuitous foul mouth they give her. I curse so it isn’t that it just doesn’t seem authentically played out with her whereas she nailed the loves theater shows aspect of her character). There are so many more tidbits and throw away lines that made the season worth it after the letdown of season two (for me).
Now off to find out all about Sazz when I get back home after some errands.
