You didn’t get the memo or the hype, and discovered a show much later than most, perhaps years later even. How/why/when and which show?
SO Buffy the Vampire Slayer I THINK I had saxophone practice Tuesday evenings in the late 90s/early 00s, because something kept me from watching Buffy in real time when it would’ve been up my alley. I have yet to watch it, although I’m aware of it in the cultural lexicon.
It’s on my list to watch this year FINALLY.
Derry Girls. I only got around to it this year. I loved it.
I got into BtVS the day before the series finale…it was a holiday in Canada, and one of the TV channels was airing a 10-hour, viewers choice BtVS marathon. I was flipping through channels and stopped to watch, not knowing at the time what it was. My sister and I ended up spending a good chunk of the day watching the marathon, and we were both hooked.
Another show that I ended up watching way later was The Americans. I think I didn’t have the channel that aired it when it was initially on TV, and so just missed it. I watched it on Disney+ about 1-2 years ago now, and really enjoyed it.
I’m currently watching Marcella and I’m really enjoying it. I’m on the second season and I just find it really gripping. I hope to find another show on Netflix that is just as enjoyable.
I just thought of another show I had only recently remembered watching last year, Santa Clarita Diet. I loved it so much, as soon as I was done, I re-watched it all over again. The cast was awesome and every episode had me cracking up.
I just recently started Curb Your Enthusiasm. I love Larry’s cringiness.
But I have to be in a mood to watch it, I can’t just binge it.
A little Larry goes a long way.
I tend to stay away from Vampire stuff, because vampires creep me tf out.
Is Buffy gross or graphic, or cute?
All of the above!
I recently saw some stuff pop up on YouTube about Curb Your Enthusiasm & the Seinfeld reunion/not a reunion show! It got me interested in the show. Wasn’t it on HBO all those years ago? I’ve never signed up for HBO, but I think it’s on Amazon Prime now (not sure). I’m debating if I want to watch it or not. I agree about Larry. What I’ve seen of him, I would need to watch this one episode a week, not a binge!
I was super late to the show Only Murders in the Building. I’m loving it! I can’t remember other shows I was late to, but there have been plenty! There are so many shows and ways to watch them that I simply can’t keep up! I get overwhelmed with so many streaming services and shows, so I keep a short list of shows to watch.
I’m not a vampire show fan either (though maybe Dark Shadows when I was 10 or 11) but Buffy is different. I only half watched it when my teens did but for some reason, the insanity of the season 5 finale hooked me and I became a real fan. Joss Whedon may be a rotten human being but he knows how to write a kick-*ss ensemble show.
Of course, I might not be the best judge because I may have shipped Buffy and Spike. It was a weird time in my life.
That one is on my list. It didn’t end on a cliffhanger did it? Not that I won’t watch it but I’d rather know so I can save my rage.
Right now I’m watching Black Sails. I’m OBSESSED. I’ve got the final 2 episodes tonight so I will probably be back here tomorrow with my praise for this awesome show.
Gosh, I have the memory of a goldfish, lol. I think it was left with some unresolved stuff that I wanted to see play out, but I can’t remember exactly.
I’m watching Deadwind and I really like it. I don’t how how popular it was at the time, if at all, but I’m enjoying it.
So… I hate it when I love something so much and I’m so shit with words that I can’t properly convey it. I will try though.
Black Sails is one of the best shows I’ve ever seen. I actually am okay with having missed out on it as it was airing because for me it’s a show better binge watched. The story and character work are top notch and is taken to greatness by the casting of the main players. Toby Stephens (who I do know and excuse me while I take a moment to fan myself) and Luke Arnold who I didn’t.
There are no “good guys” in this show and the alliances are always shifting just like the sands of Nassau which each person fights for for their own reasons. What is fascinating is the way I can understand and even root for each of them even though some of them are terrible people. There are hurt people who hurt people, there are people that are just trying to survive their circumstances. This show lets all the moments breathe so you can understand the motivations of everyone whether you agree or disagree with them. It lets you see why they make the choices they do. It can be brutal because, you know, pirates and of course we have to have the T & A because it was a Starz show.
I have so much I could say about this show so I’m hoping if I can just get a few people to watch maybe we can have a forum and discuss it. If not, that’s okay too. I will be thinking about this show for a long time and I will be rewatching it soon.
@BunnyCarlos, I still miss Black Sails so much and only watched it about a year ago. I’m still bummed they didn’t come out with Treasure Island.
Such good storytelling, acting, pacing, scenery porn and did I mention pirates?
The man candy was quite nice.
Captain Flint - a very yummy ginger and Billy, built like a brick you know what.
Charles Vane anyone?
And of course, Silver.
Yep the eye candy did not hurt and I for one am glad everybody had nice white teeth even if it wasn’t realistic.
This show was a home run on every score but the very best thing they did was cast Toby Stephens as Flint. He’s an absolute powerhouse and you’d be sitting there like, he makes so much sense when really you shouldn’t be falling for his crazy. John even said it, I wasn’t supposed to be there. The crew and everyone actually was supposed to fall for whatever Flint was saying but John knew better and he wasn’t supposed to be there and would be anyway. That’s how I felt.
Amazing show.
I liked that one a lot too. Very funny. Drew Barrymore is a treasure. One of the teens on it had a role in Never Have I Ever and I recognized her straight away.
I also fucking loved Black Sails. One of the best things Starz has ever given us. My friend and I were just talking about it last week, specifically about wanting a Max spinoff. I rewatch it every other year and I think I’m due. Definitely going on my list this summer.
I should add it to my list.
I’d say it’s one of the best things television’s ever given us. I’m going to do my best to get everyone I know to watch it.
