Law & Order: Criminal Intent

Agreed Goldwyn is great at both roles - he’s been a strong choice to replace Sam Waterston/Jack McCoy on the Mothership IMO, I really like Nick Baxter.

S8 is kind of jumbled and somewhat of a mess with the episode order plus the episode that’s never shown on reruns The Glory That Was because it pissed off some people involved with the Rio Olympics/Brazilian government. But it has some good episodes, my favorites are Family Values and Major Case

I like “Lady’s Man,” which is coming up tonight (11/6).

I wonder if he got chosen as Barba on SVU on the basis of this episode?

There’s a humorous fanfic on either Fanfiction net or AO3 that plays on the fact that Esparza played both roles and Barba gets arrested for a crime Mulrooney commits.

I like “Lady’s Man”, too! Always nice when Alex gets time in the spotlight. (Even if I love Bobby, too.)

Do you remember the name of that fanfic? Sounds like something that can make me laugh, and I could use a laugh right about now!

Lady’s Man is a pretty good episode and I also liked the focus on Eames, plus very minimal Ross in that episode which was nice - the less of that asshat the better!
But yeah it’s weird seeing Barba as this psychopath lawyer here, Barba is my favorite SVU ADA, at least until they made him a Benson Bot. It’s amazing how many actors have been used over and over on Dick Wolf shows.

Thank you.

Rita Moreno (Frances Goren) now has her very own Barbie doll. Yes, really! I guess being a renowned EGOT recipient has its perks.

Hope everyone had a Happy Thanksgiving today in the US.

On another note, while this episode has been discussed a bunch, I never caught the sad irony until now when Charles Rocket’s Johnny or Donnie said at the end of “Pas De Deux” on Charge! tonight that he was not suicidal, since that is exactly how Charles Rocket died, around two years after filming this episode. Kind of made goosebumps rise on my arms.

Rest in peace to actress Linda Lavin, who had a memorable guest role as domineering mother and mother-in-law from hell, Ursula Sussman, in “Shandeh” in Season 2.

Also, of course, remember her on Alice and for her theater work. She was also in the recent Netflix series, No Good Deed.

May she rest in peace.

Family Values was just on Charge, this is a really good but very creepy episode with lunatic Devildis, he was a memorable perp at a time when CI didn’t have as many memorable perps. Very creepy how he seemed attracted to his daughter and his murders were horrifying. But Goren’s interrogation of him at the end is an awesome Goren moment, he perfectly manipulated Devildis into giving them his daughter’s location, one of my favorite Goren scenes. Season 8 was uneven but this felt like classic CI, this one and Major Case are my two favorite season 8 episodes.

Both Vincent D’Onofrio and David Harbour were fantastic in the final denouement. The intensity was, as you say, almost like classic CI. Bobby Goren had his passion back in that moment.

Yes it was one of the few moments of season 8 where Goren had all of his mojo - it was awesome. As I’ve said before, I hated how they gave Goren so much baggage starting in season 6, he lost his energy and seemed to be carrying around a lot of weight on his shoulders. It wasn’t until season 10 that he (and the show as a whole) fully returned to classic form, but it was nice to see classic Goren interrogation of a perp again in this episode. I know season 8’s episodes were all aired out of order but I wondered if this was supposed to be the last Goren episode of the season, it would’ve been a nice finish to the season for Goren instead of the boring and confusing episode Alpha Dog, which was the last Goren episode of the season.

If I recall, S8 was shortened, too, because of the 2007-2008 Writers’ Strike, so perhaps the final episode was never even filmed. But who knows?

Oh yes Season 8 was shortened, and then I know some episodes aired out of order, it seemed like Faithfully was meant to be the opening episode, and I wonder if other episodes were aired out of order. Family Values would’ve been a more fitting finale than Alpha Dog, as it seemed Goren had completely regained his mojo in this one. But then the awful season 9 premiere came along and Goren seemed all bogged down again, that was such an awful exit for Goren/Eames, I have no idea who thought that would be satisfying. Thankfully they brought G/E back for a strong season 10.

Season 9’s exit story was also confusing and ridiculous. Somali terrorists in NYC?! As you said, at least S10 was strong and a much more satisfying end.

Oh yeah the plot of the season 9 premiere made no sense. I still can’t figure out what happened or who killed who or why, just that the mastermind orchestrated things as some sort of power grab attempt and they had to let him go because he would be used to track terrorists for the time being. Convoluted crapola, and a total bummer exit for Goren/Eames. Only part I enjoyed was seeing asshat Ross bite the dust LOL!!

How’d I know you’d find a silver lining as far as Ross went? LOL!

LOL Ross sucked!! Probably the worst main character in all of L&O franchise history - even worse than Beauty Queen on the Mothership and some of the SVU characters. I can’t recall a single moment of Ross being likable.
Interestingly enough Charge is showing Loyalty right now! I’m watching college football but I noticed the start of season 9 would be on Charge tonight
