Law & Order

I see they are filming a Mothership/SVU crossover - not sure how I feel about this, while it’s nice continuity and I like seeing characters that don’t normally interact working together, I hope Olivia Benson doesn’t drag down the Mothership characters the way she does just about everyone else in her orbit. I do hope Riley/Shaw interact with Bruno and Fin, seeing those guys team up would be epic

I can’t tolerate much of current-day Benson, so I may pass on this!

Benson can be very hard to stomach, although she’s been a tad better this season - there are more detectives in the squad room which helps things, they’ve gone into court more and there’s been no personal crap with Benson this year - she’s still annoying and portrayed as a beacon of light who’s never wrong about cases, and it drives me nuts how she gets so involved all the time with cases, but SVU has gotten better this season. I’m curious about the crossover, I hope they manage to pull it off well

This was one of the fastest “ripped from the headlines” episodes in L&O history - it was pretty well done overall and left me with mixed feelings, the same mixed feelings I have about the real life case - I abhor violence and street justice, but the health insurance situation in America is really fucked up, and given that my mom died from cancer as well I had more sympathy for the defendant than maybe I should. And this fictional victim was a real greedy jerk who I felt no sympathy for. For only the second time in Mothership history I believe we don’t know the ending, and I kind of liked that, it left things open ended and was a change from the norm. I did wonder if the fact that the real life case is still ongoing is why they didn’t give us a conclusion here, but it worked overall.
I liked the “ticking clock” first half, it was unique and intense and I liked seeing more cops involved, but it was weird how Shaw was absent, I wonder if Mehcad was filming something else during this time.

I read Mehcad Brooks was filming some Mortal Kombat movie, so that may explain Shaw’s absence in this episode.

Good episode until the end - Price was just too soft, to quote Arthur when he fired Serena “prosecutors have to be cold blooded” and Price, and Maroun as well for that matter, just don’t have it in them.
Shaw was MIA again but Riley/Brady have established a nice rapport, while Brady gets a lot of screen time she’s a decent interrogator now. I didn’t mind Riley’s scenes with his kid, and I’m glad Riley seems to have a drama free family life - I take it he’s reconciled with his wife. No personal tie to the case was nice.

Nolan should have put the doctor or grandmother on the stand if he didn’t have the heart to question the daughter. Instead, he lets the dirtbag husband walk.

“Magnificat” did this all better, IMO. Even if Carver was as weak as Nolan there.

Interesting comparison with Magnificat, and yeah that was disappointing how Carver didn’t even bother to try to convict that douche of a husband. I did wonder about whether the doctor testified offscreen or not. The grandma probably didn’t have much knowledge of it since I doubt she lived with them. I hope the grandma was able to try to sue for custody.

Interesting case tonight with no glaring flaws, it was a good case, I just hope they aren’t doing with Shaw what they did with Robinette and have him do a 180 and make him some kind of militant stereotype - Riley was right to tell Price what Shaw said, if anyone had an unconscious bias it was Shaw not Riley. Shaw shouldn’t care who’s guilty or not, and if he doesn’t trust the jury to make a decision based on the facts, well I’m afraid he’s in the wrong line of work.
And Maroun should be a defense lawyer, she was ridiculous suggesting they drop the charge just because Shaw had doubts - the evidence was overwhelming, the guy had the victim’s blood on his pants which he couldn’t even reasonably explain, he lied about his whereabouts and was at the crime scene, he had motive and he probably threw the murder weapon into the river. The case was strong and the jury got the right verdict. Price was good in this one and I liked Baxter’s scenes as well.
This had a good plot and case, I just hope they don’t start trashing Shaw’s character and I hope this doesn’t drive a wedge between him and Riley. But I did think it was an interesting case and one of the more tightly plotted episodes with no big flaws or absurd behavior/decisions.

The crossover tonight was a big success overall IMO - one of the best written episodes of both shows all season and a strong storyline.
Benson was overdramatic as usual but at least they didn’t make anyone else look bad to make her look even better, and she didn’t steamroll the DAs or Brady. I loved the scene where Benson was overdramatic as usual in Baxter’s office wanting him to threaten WhatsApp and Baxter calmly told her he didn’t run his office that way and to do the sting operation instead - of course Benson should’ve thought of that but it was kind of satisfying to see someone else overrule Benson and point out the obvious.
Baxter overall was really good and Price/Carisi were a good prosecuting tandem, I liked how they took turns questioning witnesses and worked together as equals.
For once it felt natural that both Brady and Benson would have large roles, and while I would’ve liked more from the Mothership characters, what we got was good, each SVU detective had good scenes and I liked the Riley/Silva partnership, weird that Shaw was MIA though, and Maroun disappeared after 1 scene but I don’t care about her really. Riley disappeared halfway through, so really only Brady/Price/Baxter got large roles from the Mothership, but I liked each character’s role.
Good twists throughout the story although I called Gomez as the perp the minute the witness vanished from the station.
Overall a really good crossover - a strong case and nice roles for each character and a story that flowed naturally and was compelling throughout.

Fantastic episode tonight - probably the best of the season and one of the best of the revival. Strong case with good twists from start to finish and a good role for each character. Maroun was annoying me though, she was once again a total softy, and Ernesto needed the wake up call they gave him about his dad, he was in extreme denial and Baxter was right to have them put the screws to him.
I liked all of the interactions between the police and DAs, they are doing a great job of having all of the characters interact and making it a team effort to solve cases.
They even added in some humor, with the opening scene of the jerk whining about his car, the banter between Shaw/Riley, and Baxter reading the scumbag’s text messages was kind of funny as well.
Great episode, hope for more like it!

Good episode tonight, for the first time I agreed with Maroun’s point of view, I thought offering a manslaughter plea was both ethical and legally pragmatic - the murder wasn’t justified and the defendant had other options but there were mitigating factors given how extreme the dad’s behavior was. Price was being too harsh and I liked that the brother told him off at the end.

The AI chat bot stuff was interesting - I agree with Baxter that it’s terrifying.

Shaw/Riley were strong as usual, love them both.

Interesting case and I can’t believe I agreed with Maroun for once. L&O is on a string of good episodes now and hopefully they finish strong next week
